Park calls for strict law enforcement

Oct. 21, 2015 - 13:35 By KH디지털2

President Park Geun-hye called Wednesday for strict law enforcement as she asked police to promote a "law-abiding culture" in South Korea.

She said national reconciliation and its development can be possible when the authority of the law is respected.

"I ask you to strictly enforce the law against those who deny liberal democracy and the spirit of the Constitution," Park said in a speech at a Police Day ceremony in central Seoul.

Park called for greater efforts to crack down on increasingly sophisticated crimes, such as financial frauds and cyber crimes.

She also instructed the police to gradually come up with a road map on how to maintain public order in case of potential unification with North Korea.

Park has repeatedly called for peaceful unification, calling it a "bonanza" for South Korea and a blessing for neighboring countries.

North Korea has long suspected that Seoul could be plotting to absorb Pyongyang, a claim denied by South Korea. (Yonhap)
