An international festival promoting healthy eating and an environment-friendly lifestyle ended its 10-day run in the outskirts of Seoul, luring some 400,000 visitors, its organizing group said Monday.

Under the theme "Good Food, Good Life," the Namyangju Slow Life International Festival ran through last Saturday from Oct. 8 in the namesake city located about 30 kilometers east of the capital city.

The organizer said around 400,000 people visited the event during the period, enjoying the opportunity to experience various cuisines and eating cultures from different parts of the world.

Participants from 48 countries, including Zambia, Russia, India, Morocco, Tanzania and Hungary, took part in the event, introducing their traditional food and unique ways of displaying them, authentic ingredients, silverware and other tools, it added.

One of the events included "food shows" by seven famous Korean chefs who have recently become celebrities here, while ten others including wives of ambassadors and embassy officials took part in a session where they introduced cuisines from their own countries.

The Good Food exhibition hall was packed with crowds, who came to taste various international foods from countries like Bulgaria, Turkey, Bangladesh, Spain and New Zealand, the organizer said.

The festival held a cooking tournament in which competitors boasted their recipe skills and vied against each other in groups divided up by age or nationality.

There was also an international conference attended by experts from here and abroad that shed light on the themes of slow life and healthy meals.

A total of 953 volunteers took part in the event, providing various assistance throughout the festival, including interpretation, according to the organizing committee. (Yonhap)
