Mokpo English Village in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, is hosting an English contest this Saturday bringing together elementary school students to boast their linguistic skills.
The event, to be held Saturday, will start with a quiz for students from fourth to sixth grades in elementary schools to be followed by a speaking contest.
The quiz will cover trivia, science and arts to be conducted in English. The winner will receive an award given by Mokpo’s education superintendent. Participants in the speaking contest will vie for the top prize offered by Mokpo’s mayor.
Mokpo English Village, operated by Herald Edu Inc. the education branch of Herald Corp., is also arranging a festivity in time for Halloween on Oct. 31 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The programs will include crafts, games and a marketplace selling items donated from Korean and foreign residents as well as volunteer organizations.
All proceeds will be donated to a social welfare organization.
