Sept. 26, 2015 - 09:56 By 김영원

President Park Geun-hye appeared in a video message released at a ceremony for the U.N. summit on sustainable development, Cheong Wa Dae said Friday.

Park joined U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Stephen Hawking and nine other high-profile people in announcing 17 goals that world leaders have vowed to accomplish by 2030.

The goals call for, among other things, the reduction of poverty and gender equality.

Park is set to address the U.N. summit for sustainable development on Saturday, a day after she arrives in New York, according to the South Korean presidential office.

The summit is designed to adopt the post-2015 development agenda, a follow-up to the Millennium Development Goals to eradicate extreme poverty, reduce child mortality and achieve universal primary education. (Yonhap)
