Ford Korea on Monday launched the 2016 New Explorer, the facelift version of the company’s best-selling full-size sport utility vehicle.

The overhauled SUV with beefed-up specs and a trendier design is expected to further ignite the SUV boom in the country.

“The 2016 Ford Explorer is the car you would choose whenever you feel like getting out of your routine. But it is also a good urban-outdoor car that could be with you whenever, wherever.” said Jung Jae-hee, CEO of Ford Sales and Service Korea, at a news conference in Seoul.

“Ford Explorer has been a global best seller and the main contributor to Ford Korea’s success. Because it is in high demand, we will focus on providing the best service rather than simply selling a higher number of vehicles,” he said.

For a start, the 2.3 liter-EcoBoost engine boasts a power output of 274 horsepower and a maximum torque of 41.5kg.m, some 15 percent up from its previous model. The four-cylinder engine alongside the Select-Shift that enables the driver to change the six-speed automatic transmission without touching the gear enhances the power and drivability, the company said.

The seven-seater’s ample storage is also an asset. The company spokeswoman explained that the 2,313 liter-cargo room ― with the backseats folded ― is large enough to carry a two-door refrigerator. The seats can be folded with the push of a button, easy for women and children to manipulate.

Some of the most distinctive features of the car include the Advanced Active Park Assist helping drivers in nearly all parking situations by scanning suitable parking spaces and assisting in backing up the vehicle.

The Terrain Management System allows the car to run steadily regardless of the road conditions ― wet, icy, rocky, uphill-downhill and others. The Lane Keeping System, the Adaptive Cruise Control and multiple airbags alongside enhanced seat belts have been designed to enhance safety.

For the fun factor, the signature Sony Premium Sound System provides the best audio, the company said.

The price of the 2016 New Explorer Limited starts from 56 million won.
