Seoul Players lines up ‘Rocky Horror’ show

Sept. 2, 2015 - 18:40 By Korea Herald
Gearing up for their annual Halloween show, Seoul Players are looking for cast members for a shadow cast production of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

The auditions on Saturday will be for shows on Oct. 30 and 31.

The shadow cast show involves a screening of the movie, with actors acting out the larger than life characters on a stage in front of the screen.

Producer Chris Zaczek said last year’s production was a blast.

“Performing in it was wonderful. Last year we had one of the most outrageous, cool and downright sexy casts I have ever worked with,” he said.

“Everyone came in with fresh ideas and boatloads of enthusiasm. We had a very young and vibrant cast last year and that really fed into the energy.”

“Many times we even forgot we were performing in front of a screen.”

Seoul Players has run a shadow cast of “Rocky Horror” every Halloween since 2011, and is starting to become a tradition.

“Rocky Horror is pretty much essential to Halloween,” said Zaczek. “It’s right up there with candy, costumes and capers.”

He said that every cast had its own dynamic and strengths to play to, with last year’s being more energetic and 2013 being more comedic, and he was eager to see happens this year.

“We’re hoping to get the same sort of enthusiasm we had last year,” he said. “One thing we strive for at Seoul Players is to keep adding new actors and actresses to the community. So one thing we are really hoping for is to get some fresh faces in.”

The auditions will be held in one-hour blocks on Saturday at the Camarata studios in Haebangchon from 12-4 p.m. Rehearsals will begin next week.
