Hyundai Motor's Accent best-seller in overseas markets

Hyundai Motor Co.'s Accent subcompact was the best-selling export model among cars produced and shipped overseas in 2014, industry data showed Wednesday.

According to the data by the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, South Korea's top automaker exported a total of 260,386 units of the Accent last year. The figure was the largest among car models produced and shipped overseas  in 2014.

 Hyundai Motor's Avante compact came next with 251,433, followed by the Pride subcompact of its affiliate Kia Motors Corp with 233,834 units and GM Korea Co.'s Trax cross SUV with 220,777 units.

Last year, automakers operating in South Korea exported a combined 3.06 million units, down 0.8 percent from a year earlier, the data showed.

Kia Motors topped the pact by exporting about 1.23 million units last year, trailed by Hyundai Motor and GM Korea with 1.2 million and 460,000 units, respectively.

The United States was the largest export market for cars produced in South Korea with around 890,000 vehicles sold there.

Saudi Arabia and Canada followed with some 230,000 units and 140,000 units shipped to those markets last year, respectively, the data showed. (Yonhap)
