June 10, 2015 - 09:36 By KH디지털2

U.S. senators have introduced a resolution welcoming South Korean President Park Geun-hye's upcoming visit to Washington, congressional records showed Tuesday.

Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) initiated the resolution (S.Res.194) on Monday, together with Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) as a co-sponsor. It was titled "a resolution welcoming the President of the Republic of Korea on her official visit to the United States and celebrating the United States-Republic of Korea relationship, and for other purposes."

The resolution welcomes Park's visit as an opportunity to strengthen security cooperation in such areas as space, cyber and missile defense. It also calls for further deepening the alliance, saying it was "forged in blood" and is now a "linchpin" in Asia.

It also expresses support for Park's peace initiatives toward North Korea and the region.

Park is set to visit the U.S. from June 14-19, where she will hold summit talks with U.S. President Barack Obama on June 16. It will be her second visit to the U.S., after the first one in May 2013, since taking office in February 2013. (Yonhap)
