The deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing has been named the next senior Asian affairs director at the White House, diplomatic sources said Wednesday.

Dan Kritenbrink, a career diplomat, will replace Evan Medeiros as senior director for Asia at the White House's National Security Council.
