Stokke to offer free stroller repairs due to fall hazard

Norwegian baby product manufacturer Stokke decided to offer free repairs to Korean consumers who purchased its stroller model Trailz after a fall hazard prompted its recall in other countries, the company said on Sunday.

“The model is not officially distributed in Korea but we will provide free repair service to Korean consumers,” a Stokke Korea official said.

The move comes after the Korea Consumer Agency advised Stokke Korea to take appropriate measures for those who bought the high-end stroller from overseas.

The product in question, produced in Norway, has been sold in Europe, the United States, Mexico and South Africa. The company has launched a new model of Trailz to rectify the handle defect that led to the recall.


“The products which hit stores in Korea in February have undergone improvement,” the official said.

The KCA, however, said there was a possibility that some Korean consumers had bought the stroller from abroad or through overseas shopping agencies.

Starting from December in 2014, the Norway-based firm has recalled the Stokke Trailz after customers reported that the handle joint could break while in use. The recall affects strollers with chassis and seat sold between November 2014 and December 2014, according to Stokke Korea and the consumer agency.

There has been one report of a broken handle joint in the United States. The firm has received eight reports of handle joints breaking in other countries. No injuries have been reported, according to U.S.’ Consumer Product Safety Commission.
