N.K. leader inspects construction site of new airport terminal

April 12, 2015 - 10:07 By (공용)코리아헤럴드

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has inspected the construction site of a second airport terminal in Pyongyang, calling on officials to complete the project in a way to highlight national identity, the North's media said Sunday.

The Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim gave his so-called field guidance at Terminal 2 of Pyongyang International Airport, whose construction is nearing its completion. The dispatch did not give details about the date of his visit.

Kim said that it would be possible to complete the construction successfully if some defects in the construction of the interior are corrected.

"It is important to complete the construction as scheduled, but what is more important is to wind up the project in such a manner as to show the proud appearance of the socialist system in the DPRK and the standard of the highly civilized nation as befitting the gate to Pyongyang," Kim was quoted as saying by the KCNA.

The DPRK is the acronym for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the North's official name.

During a previous inspection of the terminal construction in November, Kim instructed officials to halt work on the interior for the time being, and to examine layout designs and complete modifications.

North Korea began building the second terminal for the international airport, the main gateway to Pyongyang, in 2012, according to the KCNA. (Yonhap)
