Samsung SDS ties up with U.S. firm in push for logistics biz

March 24, 2015 - 12:14 By KH디지털2

Samsung SDS Co., an IT solution arm of South Korea's top conglomerate, Samsung Group, said Tuesday it has joined forces with a U.S. software giant to sell its logistics software platform to China as part of its efforts to tap into the overseas logistics market.

Samsung SDS signed a preliminary deal with Oracle Corp., in which the two sides agreed to develop and market a logistics solution system based on their big-data analysis tools, the Seoul-based company said in a statement.

The tie-up is largely aiming for the Chinese market, where corporate demand for logistics outsourcing is high as Beijing is willing to foster the industry as part of a long-term growth plan.

Samsung SDS has built an edge with its supply management platform that basically keeps in check a client's entire supply chain from inventory to transportation.

The big data platform created under the partnership with Oracle will give a boost to Samsung SDS's overseas bid. The company pledged at its shareholders meeting held earlier this month that it will shore up efforts to further make inroads abroad.

The key unit of Samsung has gotten the bulk of its revenues from its bigger affiliate, Samsung Electronics Co., the crown jewel of the conglomerate.

Samsung SDS debuted on the local stock market in November, spurring a market clamor over its potential role in Samsung's generational change in leadership to the three children of chairman Lee Kun-hee, as all four of them each own a stake in the company. (Yonhap)
