Richie’s SAT Essay

March 23, 2015 - 11:09 By Korea Herald
Body Paragraph 1:

Develop Story:

Describe a story/example/reading that relates to part 1 of the essay prompt.

A good example of this __________ . (4~6 more sentences of elaboration)

Example: A good example of this comes from the story of Bill Gates. Bill Gates founded Microsoft corporation, originally, by selling IBM a program which he had bought (at a severely discounted price) from another man―in this way, Microsoft was founded on the work of an unknown programmer. After that, he went on to create Microsoft Windows by copying the Macintosh operating system that Apple had originally taken from Xerox. Again, Microsoft began their launch into incredible success because Gates was able to lift software code from other companies and people. All of this would tend to show that the actions of this high achiever (Gates) hurt other people; in fact, it did quite the opposite.

Body Paragraph 2:

Continue Story:

Continue your original story/example/reading in a way that progresses to part 2 of the essay prompt.

Example: Today, Microsoft Windows is the dominant operating system for almost every business across the globe. It helps businesses make the world more productive and wealthier, and connects billions of people to the internet. Beyond that, Microsoft makes an enormous amount of software available to the public―including coding languages―at no charge. However, Gates’s story doesn’t end there. With the money he made from Microsoft―and with the contributions from other philanthropists―he also founded the Gates Foundation, which is a charitable organization dedicated to ending poverty and diseases all around the world. All of this, though, would not have occurred if Gates had not acted through intense competition and achievement early on in his career.
