The National Museum of Korean Contemporary History has launched a new English-language academic journal to spotlight research and foster the exchange of ideas on contemporary Korean history.

The biannual Journal of Contemporary Korean Studies features articles not only on Korean politics and economy but also on contemporary Korean social affairs, culture and the arts. It includes an essay section where contributors offer reflections on their personal experiences of Korean contemporary history, adding personal insights to the current understanding of the field. The journal will be distributed to major organizations and research institutions both in Korea and abroad. An e-book is also available at www.much.go.kr/museum/publicationRead/InfoListInqire.do. 


The first volume (Dec. 2014) includes a special section on the theme “Reflections on Contemporary Korean Studies,” with contributions from professors Michael Kim (Yonsei University), Charles Armstrong (Columbia University,) Andrei Lankov (Kookmin University), Chung Il-joon (Korea University) and Cho Seok-gon (Sangji University). It also contains an essay written by former Education Minister Yoon Hyung-sup and cultural critiques on the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art’s 10th anniversary exhibit, the film “The Admiral: Roaring Currents” and the hit TV series “My Love from the Star.” For more information, call (02) 3703-9326.
