March 2, 2015 - 09:55 By KH디지털2

South Korea's No. 2 tech giant, LG Electronics Inc., said Monday it will show how its latest wearable can activate a car in a demonstration using an Audi at an international mobile event in Spain.

LG is debuting its new smartwatch, the LG Watch Urbane LTE, at the Mobile World Congress that kicks off this week in Barcelona. The wearable is the world's first to work on the long-term evolution network.

"A driver can just wear the LG Watch Urbane LTE and press the 'start engine' button to turn on the ignition, without any need to carry a key," LG said in its release.

The demonstration will include opening and locking of car doors through a Near Field Communication chip in the smartwatch.

The gadget also allows turning on the heater before riding and can measure a user's heart rate data through a sensor to ensure safe driving. Soon, it will be able to locate where the vehicle is parked, the company said.

The LG Watch Urbane will be equipped with a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and run on the Android Wear platform. It comes with a 1.3-inch plastic organic light-emitting diode and a 410mAh battery. It will work on all smartphones with the Android 4.3 platform or higher. (Yonhap)
