Hana Financial Group is seeking ways to provide more contributions to society as its “Happy Box” program is drawing a positive response.
The banking group carries out the “Happy Box” event as a periodic act of community sharing. Items like rice, ramen and other daily necessities are sent to underprivileged members of society.
Recipients of the “Happy Box” include children from low-income households, elderly people, North Korean defectors and immigrants.
The “Happy Box” is delivered to Hana Bank and Korea Exchange Bank branches nationwide, where it will then be sent to welfare agencies and disadvantaged people near the branches.

The financial group said it planned to hold four more “Happy Box” events this year as the charity program has borne meaningful results.
About 130 employees from the group and its affiliates including Hana Bank and Korea Exchange Bank gathered in Samseong-dong to create 1,111 “Happy Boxes” as a Lunar New Year’s gift to the disadvantaged along with the Seoul Council on Social Welfare Food Bank on Feb. 7.
Group officials said it sought trust and interactions with the local community through such programs as “Happy Box.”
“We will try our best to find more ways to work with the local community and provide more social charity programs,” the group said in a press statement.
