KT and the Korean Red Cross have agreed to cooperate on establishing an ICT-based private safety system that surveys emergency situations and sends relief aid, the telecom giant said Wednesday.
The two parties plan to combine the Korean Red Cross’ rescue infrastructure with KT’s ICT knowledge. They also agreed to share information and work together during disasters.
The newly collaborated system will allow the Korean Red Cross to view emergency situations via rescue workers’ smartphone videos and help prevent future disasters by analyzing videos with relevant government offices.
Last October, KT distributed 48 RADGER 1 devices, a wireless LTE walkie-talkie developed by KT Powertel, to the Red Cross office and its 14 branches. It boasts features such as group calls and multimedia messaging, and has smooth radio reception in previously difficult areas such as tunnels, underground, and mountainous regions.
“This collaboration is significant in that it uses KT’s world-class ICT knowledge to innovate emergency response and strengthen public safety,” said KT CEO Hwang Chang-gyu.
“We received a huge assistance in our rescue missions with KT’s ICT-based emergency response system, and we hope to use this new system to provide appropriate rescue efforts and minimize damage,” said Korean Red Cross president Kim Sung-joo.
