Prosecution to seek arrest warrant for Korean Air heiress

Dec. 23, 2014 - 21:53 By Korea Herald
The prosecution plans to file for an arrest warrant on Korean Air’s former executive Heather Cho over the “nut rage” incident.

According to reports, the prosecution decided to seek an arrest warrant on charges including changing the route of an airplane, assault and negatively influencing the safety of the aircraft. The application for the warrant is set to be filed early Wednesday.

Cho, the eldest daughter of Korean Air chairman Cho Yang-ho, screamed and hurled abuse at a flight attendant and the chief manager Park Chang-jin on Dec. 5. She then ordered Park to disembark from the flight, causing the aircraft to return to the gate, and delayed the Incheon-bound flight from New York by 11 minutes.

Cho is also alleged to have ordered Korean Air employees to cover up evidence of her wrongdoings, while company officials are accused of attempting to coerce employees to provide false accounts of the events.

A vice president of the company, identified by the surname Yeo, has been booked for playing a leading role in destroying evidence that proved Korean Air tried to cover up the incident, such as by deleting internal emails. Yeo also allegedly attempted to force the deplaned cabin manager and other flight attendants to give false testimony to Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport authorities last week. The ministry has concluded that Cho’s actions aboard the flight breached aviation safety regulations.
