Samsung, AMD to roll out FreeSync Ultra HD monitor

Nov. 21, 2014 - 09:33 By KH디지털2

Samsung Electronics Co. and U.S.-based Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Inc. said Friday they have agreed to jointly produce new Ultra HD (UHD) monitors that prevent "screen tear" by adopting the FreeSync technology.

Under the agreement, Samsung will apply the technology to five models set to be released in the first half of 2015 and eventually use it in its entire UHD monitor lineup.

The FreeSync feature aims to provide clear resolution by eliminating any screen distortions, "delivering frames at intervals that fit the monitor's refresh rate exactly," AMD said.

"With this technology, we believe users including gamers will be able to enjoy their videos and games to be played with smoother frame display without stuttering or tearing on their monitors," AMD said in its release, quoting an official from Samsung.

The South Korean tech giant took up 42 percent of the global UHD monitor market in 2014, according to data compiled by DisplaySearch. (Yonhap)
