LG Display tops global UHD panel market in October

Nov. 20, 2014 - 21:20 By Korea Herald
LG Display Co., South Korea’s top maker of liquid crystal displays, outpaced its Taiwanese rival in ultrahigh-definition TV sales in October, taking the top spot for the first time, a report showed Thursday.

LG Display shipped a total of 578,000 units of UHD TVs last month, accounting for 28.1 percent of the market, according to the latest report by market tracker DisplaySearch.

That compares with the 24 percent share of Innolux Corp., which sold 494,000 units in the cited period.

In January, the Taiwanese firm far outpaced LG Display: 63.1 percent versus 8.3 percent.

Innolux had led the UHD TV panel market, buoyed by its mid to low-end lineups, while Korean companies, including LG Display and No. 3 player Samsung Display Co., focused on premium models.

LG Display cited more localized marketing for China as one of the reasons for the upbeat results.

The company has run a task force since early this year in charge of increasing its presence in the world’s most populous country, which accounts for more than 60 percent of global UHD TV sales. (Yonhap)
