Daewoo International, the trading and project development arm of POSCO, said Tuesday it had started sponsoring a school for physically disabled children in Ladyzhynka, Ukraine, as part of its global corporate social responsibility activities.

The village, with a population of about 200 people, has long been isolated from medical treatment and training for jobs, the company said. Daewoo’s programs vary from upgrading school facilities to providing educational supplies and psychological treatment for children who have long lived on society’s fringes.

“The company will enhance the special education sponsor program in the region to give back to society,” said Choi Ha-young, who leads the Ukrainian branch of Daewoo International.
