A South Korean soap series starring singer and actor Rain has surpassed the 100 million mark in accumulated views on China’s two major video streaming and downloading services, the drama’s promoter said Tuesday.

The SBS TV series “My Lovely Girl” hit the milestone on Sunday, 19 days after the drama went into service on Youku and Tudou, News Link 21 said.

The series earlier drew attention at home for selling its transmission rights for $200,000 per episode, the most ever for a Korean drama sold to China. The corresponding price for “My Love from the Star,” a South Korean TV series that recently made a runaway hit in China, was $40,000.

“If this trend continues, we expect the drama would easily garner 200 million views around Nov. 6 when the service of the series is set to end,” the company said.

With the K-pop world as the backdrop, “My Lovely Girl” tells the story of two pained individuals who find healing through music and build true love.

The 16-episode series hit the air in South Korea on Sept. 17, drawing wide media attention at home and in China as the first drama starring Rain, who had been out on his two-year compulsory military service, in four years. (Yonhap)
