Hankook Shell Oil unveils natural-gas-based engine oil

Sept. 26, 2014 - 22:45 By Korea Herald
Hankook Shell Oil on Friday launched a new synthetic motor oil, featuring a base oil originating from natural gas.

The new Shell Helix Ultra, the company’s most advanced motor oil technology, uses a cutting-edge gas-to-liquid process to design pure synthetic base oil, according to Hankook Shell Oil Co.

“We expect Shell Helix Ultra to become a market leading product as the base oil is crystal clear, as it has fewer of the impurities that are found in crude oil,” said Hankook Shell CEO Kang Gin-won at a launching ceremony held in Seoul.

He added that the oil also helped improve engine life and fuel economy, while reducing maintenance costs.

The new engine oil was formulated with patented Shell PurePlus Technology, which was devised by the company to squeeze out higher levels of protection and efficiency from synthetic oil, Hankook Shell officials said.
