Jewel releases free song to support public housing

Sept. 17, 2014 - 20:42 By Korea Herald
LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Jewel is planning an album for release next autumn. But for now, she’s giving away her latest song for free.

The once-homeless singer-songwriter wrote “Home to Me” to support the ReThink public housing initiative. She unveiled the track online and performed it in Los Angeles on Tuesday for an intimate audience of public housing administrators and residents.

Jewel crowd-sourced further inspiration for the song through an online contest that drew hundreds of essays and poems about what home means. She chose the title of the track from one of the submitted compositions.

The 40-year-old entertainer has been busy since announcing her impending divorce from husband Ty Murray in July. She’s written 30 songs for a new album and is working on a memoir.
