Iranian soccer equipment manager accused of sexually harassing Korean

Sept. 16, 2014 - 20:27 By Korea Herald
ANSAN (Yonhap) ― An equipment manager for the Iranian men’s soccer team competing at the 2014 Asian Games has been booked without physical detention on suspicion of sexually harassing a South Korean female volunteer at a stadium, police here said Tuesday.

The Iranian, whose name has been withheld, is suspected of groping a college student in her early 20s on Monday at a hallway inside Ansan Wa Stadium, according to officers. The stadium is one of the out-of-town football venues for the Asiad in Incheon, the host city located north of Ansan.

The 38-year-old allegedly approached the woman by asking her to take a picture with him at the football stadium, where she was working as a volunteer guide, but was arrested after she and the event’s organizing committee notified the police of the incident.

Police said the man admitted the charges against him and that they are looking into imposing an overseas travel ban on him.

Iran lost to Vietnam 4-1 in its Group H match later on Monday.
