Cellist-turned-conductor Chang Han-na has resigned from her position as music director of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, citing “irreconcilable differences with the management.”

Her abrupt departure was announced Monday, only one day after the 32-year-old Korean led the Qatari state orchestra’s BBC Proms debut. She said her resignation was effective immediately and that she would withdraw from a scheduled performance on Tuesday in Rome and all subsequent performances with the Arab orchestra.

Russian conductor Dmitrij Kitajenko filled in for the Sept. 9 concert.

“Due to persistent administrative difficulties and irreconcilable artistic differences with the management of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, I have given notice of my resignation as music director, effective today, Sept. 8,” Chang said through a statement.

Chang was dubbed a child prodigy cellist with her surprise win of both First Prize and Contemporary Music Prize at the Rostropovich International Cello Competition in 1994 at the age of 12. She began her career as a conductor in 2007.
