YEOL to run recital-lecture on children’s songs

YEOL Korean Heritage Preservation Society will host a recital lecture of Korean children’s songs by Seoul National University professor Park Jong-hwa on Monday.

Park, who is also a concert pianist who made his professional debut at 9 years old, will explain the background of Korean children’s songs, or “dongyo,” their use in communication between generations and their structure before and after Western influences came in at around the start of the 20th century.

The session will end with a series of short performances from Park’s current “Dongyo Project.”

The lecture runs 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Seoul Museum of History. Attendance is free but there is an optional lunch fee of 10,000 won.
