The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) said on Thursday that it has named five jurors for this year’s New Currents competition section, including director Bong Joon-ho who gained international fame for his 2013 sci-fi thriller “Snowpiercer.”
The New Currents presents works by promising new directors from Asia. Jurors will select two out of the 12 films in the competition to each receive a $30,000 award.
The jury will be led by Asghar Farhadi, a renowned Iranian director who received the Golden Bear for “Jodaeiye Nader az Simin” (2011) at the Berlin International Film Festival, the BIFF said.
Also among the jurors are Dina Iordanova, a British screenwriter; Jacques Ranciere, a professor emeritus at the University of Paris VIII; and Suhasini Maniratnam, an Indian actress, director and screen writer.
The 19th edition of the festival will run from Oct. 2-11 in South Korea’s southern port city of Busan. (Yonhap)
