July 21, 2014 - 19:48 By Korea Herald
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has fined the organizer of K-pop group g.o.d.’s recent concert held at Auxiliary Stadium at Jamsil Sports Complex for damaging the stadium.

Approximately 20 square meters of the grass was destroyed by the stage structures ― consisting of an 80-meter-long main stage, a 160-meter-long protruding walk way and over 70 LED panels. The field was also damaged by oil that spilled from the stage, according to the city government on Monday.

The grass also reportedly sustained damages from the more than 30,000 people who attended the concert, despite many safety fences set up to protect the facilities.

The concert organizer World Show Market was slapped with a fine of 963,600 won ($938) for damaging the stadium’s grass, a variety of Korean grass suitable for sports events. Related law stipulates 48,180 won in fines for every 1 square meter of damaged Korean grass.

“There aren’t too many cases of grass being damaged after a concert. The damage most likely resulted from the large-scale stage setup,” said a Seoul official.

g.o.d. held the Seoul leg of its 15th anniversary reunion concert tour at the stadium on July 12 and 13.
