July 17, 2014 - 12:26 By 옥현주
South Korean singer and entertainer Shin Jung-hwan has been reported to the police for fraud, a Korean broadcaster reported Wednesday.

Shin allegedly received 100 million won from an unidentified woman, 62, in 2010, promising he would debut her son in the entertainment scene, according to the police.

In 2011, however, Shin was put behind bar on charges of overseas gambling and reportedly told the woman that he could no longer help her son debut.

The angered mother reported him to the police in June this year on fraud charges, alleging that Shin did not do anything for her son as promised.

Police are set to bring Shin in to further investigate the case.

The 39-year-old singer debuted as a member of K-pop group Roo‘ra in 1994, but rose to fame in late 1990s as a member of K-pop duo Country Kko Kko. He was actively engaged in the Korean entertainment scene by hosting several TV shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
