The Seoul Metropolitan Government is accepting nominations for honorary citizenship until July 31.
To be considered for honorary citizenship, current foreign residents must have lived in Seoul for three consecutive years and past foreign residents must have lived in Seoul for five cumulative years.
Nominees need to have made a positive impact on the Seoul community, such as by bringing economic development, improving foreign relations or promoting cultural awareness.
Special guests or other individuals foreign residents deemed qualified for honorary citizenship are also eligible for nomination.
The benefits of honorary citizenship include a medal, a certificate indicating Honorary Citizenship of Seoul and free admission to Seoul Grand Park.
Honorary citizens will also be invited to serve on various committees within the city government and will be invited to official events. The Selection Committee will meet in August 2014 and will appoint approximately 10 nominees as Honorary Citizens of Seoul.
