PSCORE rock fund-raiser to help defectors

July 1, 2014 - 21:04 By Korea Herald
North Korea and rock ’n’ roll are an unlikely combination, but an upcoming charity concert aims to provide a night of good music to support an even better cause.

On Saturday July 19, the nonprofit People for Successful Corean Reunification (PSCORE) will host its eighth “Rock Out” concert at Club Freebird 2 in Seoul’s Hongdae district. Rock fans will be entertained with five hours of live music from some of the best rock bands in South Korea, with all proceeds going towards PSCORE’s North Korean Defector Education Program.

The program assists defectors in adapting to life in the South by providing them with basic necessities such as food and clothing, as well as educational support in the form of private tutoring, English classes and monthly cultural activities.

The lineup for PSCORE’s “Rock Out: Vol. 8” includes Korean and expat rock outfits Love X Stereo, Angry Bear, Wasted Johnny, Magna Fall, Beatniks, Bluesnake, Space Papa and Man. Tickets are 15,000 won, and doors open at 8 p.m.
