Crayon Pop’s agency debuts sexy short-haired Bob Girls

June 11, 2014 - 20:20 By Korea Herald
Although known for its creation of the off-the-wall, quirky, helmeted girl group Crayon Pop, Chrome Entertainment is looking to expand its image with the unveiling of the agency’s newest girl group, Bob Girls.

Dressed in sexy short shorts and stiletto heels, Ji-na, Dan-bi, Yoo-jung and Da-hye sauntered onto the stage during Bob Girls’ debut showcase Tuesday, at Bear Hall in Gangnam.

Aside from all the girls wearing hairbands resembling Mickey Mouse ears ― headgear being a signature of Crayon Pop ― the Bob Girls looked quite the opposite of their sister group, clearly emphasizing their more seductive traits.

“We think of ourselves as Crayon Pop plus sexy,” said Ji-na during the showcase.

Even before making their official debut, the ladies have already managed to garner a fan base, with dedicated fans cheering the members on during the showcase as one of the newest members of the K-pop realm.

“I still can’t believe it, even though this is our showcase, it’s like our dream come true,” said Dan-bi. “Even though we are just starting out, I think we all have one goal in mind, and that is to do well enough to win the rookie of the year award.”

On Tuesday Bob Girls released its debut EP “The 1st Single Album” featuring lead single “No Way” and “Why this Way.” During the showcase the ladies performed both singles, showing off the provocative choreography of “No Way,” and then switching gears to the light-hearted and cutesy pop of “Why this Way.”

“As you can see both of our groups are very different from one another,” said Ji-na. “One is on the sexy side and the other is on the cute side, so we just wanted to show people that we are not pinning ourselves down to just one concept.”

In regards to the act’s name, Bob Girls is not only meant to refer to the girls’ bob hairstyles, but rather it is meant to symbolize the coming of age in women as well as the emotional and mental changes that can be experienced when cutting one’s hair short.

“Our CEO was the one who selected the name and came up with the concept and we all came to an agreement,” Yoo-jeong explained. “But this is the first time since I was born to ever have short hair like this so I actually cried a lot.”

“But just because the name of our group is Bob Girls does not mean we will never grow our hair out, who knows what our future has in store for us?” Ji-na said.
