“Franky and Friends” was first streamed on television two years ago.
Kids were excited to learn about nutrition and eating habits through charming characters like Franky the bear and Ttoo, a Korean goblin.
They are back with live music and choreography. The family musical “Franky and Friends” will be on stage from May 27 to Aug. 24 at Seoul’s Jeongdong Theater.
“Franky and Friends” (YooYeol Company)
Yoo Yeol, the singer and CEO of the Yooyeol Company, is producing the musical. It is his second musical, the first being “The Bremen Town Musicians,” which has gained notable success in the past years.
Set in a fairytale land, the show revolves around a bear cub Franky, who loves to eat, and his goblin friends, who use organic ingredients and spells to make healthy meals. But Franky gets into trouble when he becomes addicted to a witch’s sweet bread. Franky has to choose between his sweet tooth and friendship.
“The story teaches the audience what healthy food is,” Yoo said. “It makes them change the way they think about food by asking questions like what it means to eat well. The kids will be able to find their own answers by watching the musical.”
“One day, my 7-year-old son asked me, ‘why is this okay to eat, not that?’ That’s where I got the idea,” said Ko Sun-duck, who wrote the lyrics. “Food should not be just for taste or out of mere instinct. It represents devotion and love.”
The musical is for the audiences of all age groups seeking a family-friendly musical with contemporary music and handmade puppets.
