South Korean girl group 2NE1 has been chosen by U.S. media website BuzzFeed as one of “11 girl groups from around the world to love right now.”
According to an article posted on the popular website Monday, 2NE1 is riffing on the format all over the world, along with British “X-Factor” champs Little Mix.
The article further mentioned that the four members ― CL, Park Bom, Dara and Minzy ― are amazing dancers who create wild, over-the-top videos and that each have a distinct personality.
The band’s second full-length album “Crush” landed on No. 61 on the Billboard 200, giving K-pop its best-ever sales week in the U.S., according to the article.
The Los Angeles Times also cited 2NE1 as the female quartet that showcases K-pop’s bright future in the U.S.
According to an article posted on the daily’s website Monday, the group’s latest album “is doing more important work than crossing over ― it’s ushering in K-pop’s future, in America and everywhere.”
The article also said that singer-rapper-writer CL, in particular, gets the album’s best track in “MTBD,” billed as a solo cut.
The group is currently on its second world tour, titled “AON.”
The tour, which kicked off in March in Seoul, will bring the group to 13 cities in nine countries including Japan and China this year, according to the company. (Yonhap)
