Gyeongnam to host PSV Eindhoven in exhibition

March 19, 2014 - 19:25 By Korea Herald
South Korean club Gyeongnam FC announced Wednesday it will host the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in an exhibition match this spring.

In a statement, the K League Classic club said its match against PSV Eindhoven, featuring South Korean football icon Park Ji-sung, will take place on May 24 at Changwon Football Center in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, about 400 kilometers southeast of Seoul.

The kickoff has been tentatively set for 2 p.m. and is subject to change, Gyeongnam FC added.

It will be PSV Eindhoven’s second exhibition match in South Korea.

On May 22, the team will be in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, about 45 kilometers south of Seoul, to take on Suwon Bluewings, also a K League Classic club.

Park, 33, grew up in Suwon, and has a street and a youth football training center named after him there.

Gyeongnam FC said it is pleased to give its fans a chance to see Park in South Korea before his retirement and said the midfielder will play at least 45 minutes in the match.

Park is widely regarded as one of South Korea’s finest footballers ever.

He played in three consecutive World Cups starting in 2002 and scored at least a goal in each of them. He served as South Korea’s captain at the 2010 tournament in South Africa, where the country reached the round of 16 before losing to Uruguay. (Yonhap)
