South Korea finished well outside contention in the four-man bobsleigh on Sunday, the country's final competition at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

A South Korean team, led by the pilot Won Yun-jong, had the combined time of 3:44.22 after its four races over the past two days. The foursome finished 3.62 seconds behind the championship team from Russia, led by the pilot Alexander Zubkov.

A second South Korean team, with the pilot Kim Dong-hyun at the helm, ranked 28th among 30 teams after three races and failed to qualify for the fourth and the final run, open to only the top 20 teams.

The Winter Olympics here will have a closing ceremony later Sunday, and South Korea leaves Russia with three gold, three silver and two bronze medals. It had set out to capture at least four gold medals to finish inside the top 10 in the medal standings, but with one last gold medal on the line later Sunday in the men's ice hockey final between Canada and Sweden, South Korea stood in 13th place.

Sweden is in 14th place with two gold medals, but it has won six more medals overall than South Korea. The gold in the men's ice hockey will move Sweden into 13th place and drop South Korea a notch.

Earlier in Sochi, Won and his brakeman Seo Young-woo finished 18th in the two-man event, South Korea's best performance in Olympic bobsleigh. (Yonhap)
