More than 50 percent of U.S. people have used their mobile device to share or receive intimate or sexual text messages, emails or photos from someone, according to security software firm McAfee.

McAfee released a new study on Tuesday titled “Love, Relationships, and Technology” gathering data from 1,500 U.S. consumers.

While 77 percent of sexters send their racy content to their significant others, 16 percent send it to complete strangers.

Eighteen-to 24-year-olds with smartphones are most keen on sexting. By gender, about 61 percent of men experience sexting, while 48 percent of women do.

To keep privacy, McAfee cautions that people should not share smartphone passwords or social network passwords and think twice before sharing messages.
