첼시 레이디스, 지소연 '최고 대우' 어학연수도 제공

‘지메시’ 지소연(22)의 잉글랜드 진출 꿈이 이뤄졌다.

지소연의 에이전트사인 인스포코리아는 3일 “지소연이 잉글랜드 축구 첼시 레이디스와 2년 계약을 맺었다”며 “구단의 발표만 남은 상황”이라고 연합뉴스가 보도했다. 연봉 등 금액은 공개되지 않았다.

그러나 첼시 레이디스는 지소연에게 구단 역사상 최고 대우이자 잉글랜드 여자축구에서도 최고 수준의 대우를 해준 것으로 알려졌다. 첼시 레이디스는 잉글랜드 프로축구 프리미어리그 첼시와 연계된 여자축구단이다. 첼시 레이디스는 지난해 여름부터 지소연에게 러브콜을 보냈지만 지소연이 올해 1월 1일까지 고베와 계약이 돼 있어 시기를 기다렸다.

첼시 레이디스는 연봉 외에도 지소연에게 집과 왕복 항공권, 어학연수 프로그램도 제공하기로 했다.

한국 여자 축구의 간판인 지소연은 2010 국제축구연맹(FIFA) 20세 이하(U-20) 여자월드컵에서 한국 대표팀을 3위로 이끌며 주목받았다.

한양여대 재학 중이던 2011년 일본 여자 실업축구 아이낙 고베에 진출, 3년간 활약하면서 48경기에 출전, 21골을 넣었다.

그는 고베에서도 핵심 멤버로 자리매김해 팀의 정규리그 3년 연속 우승에 힘을 보탰고 2012년, 2013년 2년 연속 정규리그 베스트 11에 들었다. A매치에는 55경기에 출전해 26골을 기록, 대표팀에서 명실상부 에이스로 활약하고 있다. 지소연은 곧 메디컬 테스트를 받기 위해 영국으로 출국한다.

Ji So-yun inks 2-year contract with Chelsea Ladies

Ji-So-yun has signed a two-year contract with Chelsea Ladies, becoming the first Korean to play in England’s Women’s Super League, the club announced Monday.

Ji, who made her debut at the age of 15, has scored 26 goals in 55 international appearances. She is also a three-time Korean Footballer of the Year.

“I am glad to be joining Chelsea Ladies and look forward to the new challenge of playing football in Europe,” the 22-year-old said in a Chelsea statement.

“I will get myself in gear to become an integral player for my team and to lead Chelsea to the highest possible levels.”

Ji is the fifth pre-season signing by Chelsea manager Emma Hayes after adding the England quartet of Rachel Williams, Laura Bassett, Gilly Flaherty and Katie Chapman to their squad for this year’s WSL.

“She is one of the best midfielders in the world and our fans will love her,” said Hayes.
