Foreign and domestic tourists will be able to enjoy trolley tours to popular destinations in Seoul's posh Gangnam region beginning Thursday, the district office said.

The new program will run every day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and tourists can hop on and off at any of the 21 designated stops. The whole tour will take 105 minutes, according to the Gangnam District Office.

The destinations include the affluent Apgujeong district, the COEX Convention and Exhibition center, Bongeun Temple, the Gangnam Subway Station and Garosu-gil, or the trendy tree-lined street of galleries, restaurants, cafes and clothing boutiques.

The classic red car has 16 seats with ample space for each passenger, and offers free interpretation services in Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese, the office said.

The trolley tour costs 12,000 won (US$11.4) for adults and 8,000 won for children, and it is possible for tourists to pay using 20 currencies, including the U.S. dollar, the Japanese Yen and the Chinese Yuan, according to the government.

Groups, foreign students studying in South Korea and foreign employees here will receive a discount, it added.

The district office set a goal of attracting 60,000 tourists to the trolley tour by next year, expecting the program to help promote the tourism industry in the region, which became known worldwide thanks to the huge popularity of rapper Psy's mega hit "Gangnam Style."

"We will develop more programs with the trolley tour in cooperation with nearby districts and the country's major tourists destinations," said ward office chief Shin Yeon-hee. (Yonhap News)
