Film writer Darcy Paquet will offer a talk on the Korean film industry with the Royal Asiatic Society Korea Branch in Seoul on Thursday.
Paquet, a film writer who teaches on related subjects at Kyung Hee University and Korea University and consults for international film festivals, will talk about the commercial success in Korean cinema in recent years.
He will give an overview of how Korean cinema has achieved the explosive success it has over the last 15 years, and its successes and failures during that boom. He will also look into the current situation in independent films, and its relation to mainstream cinema.
The talk will run from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Residents’ Lounge of Somerset Palace, near Ahyeon Station. Entry is free for RASKB members and 7,000 won for nonmembers.
