Seoul, London agree to expand direct flights

Nov. 21, 2013 - 20:01 By Korea Herald
South Korea and Britain have agreed to further expand the number of weekly flights to and from each country, the South Korean government said Thursday.

Under the agreement reached in aviation talks held this week in London, the countries agreed to temporarily increase the number of direct flights to and from each country to 21 from the current 17 per week, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Currently, South Korea’s Korean Air and Asiana Airlines are each offering seven flights per week to and from London with the U.K.’s British Airways running six weekly flights.

“In addition to the maximum number of 17 weekly flights, the government secured the right to operate four additional weekly flights until the end of October 2014 that will allow airlines of each country to offer up to 21 weekly flights if necessary under growing demands,” the ministry said in a press release.

Also, five of the 17 existing weekly flights for each side were set to expire as of the end of March, but the countries have agreed to permanently remove such a time limit on all 17 existing weekly flights, it added. (Yonhap News)
