Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest electronics firm, denied news reports Thursday that it was poised to enter the 3-D printer market.
“It is false information that Samsung has received any sample 3-D printer from a partner, and we have absolutely no plans to enter the 3-D printer business,” a Samsung official said.
Some Korean news outlets reported that the Korean tech firm was planning to bring out a 3-D printer made by another manufacturer but with the Samsung name attached.
Money Today said the electronics giant had already received and tested a sample product from one of its partner companies, quoting an unnamed source as saying, “Samsung is considering both options: to produce 3-D printers on its own or sell an OEM 3-D printer.”
Industry watchers also predict that Samsung will not release a 3-D printer until the market has further matured.
Even though much interest is being paid to the rising technology, industrial 3-D printers currently take up most sales, with a version for the general public yet to be mass produced.
Earlier this year, rumors had it that the Korean tech giant was planning to jump on the bandwagon by entering the market for the promising technology.
Samsung was said to have contacted several domestic 3-D printer manufacturers including Carima for partnership.
