Executives from the biggest electronics retail chain in Europe visited Korean electronics behemoths Samsung and LG earlier this month to discuss marketing strategies, according to an official close to the matter.

“High-ranking officials from Euronics Italia paid a visit to Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics to discuss with the executives from each Korean firm the sales of their recently released products and retail channels in the region,” the source said Thursday.

He added that plans for how the two Korean companies would market a slew of new devices were most likely on the meeting agenda.

The two Korean electronics makers have much to offer, including their recently launched new products, the G2 and the Galaxy Note 3.

Samsung also recently launched its first curved display phone, the Galaxy Round, for which the company has yet to announce global launch plans.

LG is scheduled to start globally selling its G Pad 8.3 by the year’s end, while its own curved smartphone, the G Flex, is to be released on Nov. 13.

Another industry watcher said the meetings reflected a determination on the part of Samsung and LG to maintain a competitive edge over Apple Inc.

Recently, Apple refreshed its iPad tablet lineup and slashed the prices of its Mac computers to entice consumers.

Apple also unveiled new tablets iPad Air and iPad Mini 2, along with laptop MacBook Pro on Tuesday at an event in San Francisco.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is priced at $1,499 while the 15-inch model with 256 gigabytes of storage is $1,999, cheaper than the $1,499 and $2,199 price tags for the preceding models.

The new iPhone 5S and 5C also made a high-profile debut on Sept. 10.

Euronics Italia is an independent Italian business arm of Amsterdam-based Euronics, the largest buying group for consumer electronics in the EU. The company is represented in 30 European countries at more than 11,000 locations, reaching over 600 million consumers, according to the firm.

The visit by the Italian retailer came after officials from Best Buy visited Korea to meet Samsung and LG.
