IMF team to visit Seoul for annual meeting

Oct. 20, 2013 - 19:18 By Korea Herald
A team of officials from the International Monetary Fund will visit South Korea this week to assess its economic conditions and exchange opinions on economic, financial and fiscal policies, the Finance Ministry in Seoul said Sunday.

The team will be led by Isabelle Mateos y Lago, the deputy chief of the IMF’s Asia-Pacific bureau. It will start its annual meeting with policymakers in South Korea on Monday, according to the ministry.

During its stay, which will last until Nov. 1, the IMF team will meet with the nation’s key financial and economic policymakers from the finance ministry, the central bank and the Financial Services Commission, the ministry said. It will also visit major public and private companies.

The IMF team and Korean policymakers will exchange views on such issues as a possible impact from advanced countries’ push to roll back stimulus measures, the falling growth potential, and other risks confronting South Korea from home and abroad, the ministry said.

They will also discuss the country’s fiscal health, and financial and capital market situations, the ministry added. (Yonhap News)
