KT to build smart hotel in Las Vegas

Oct. 15, 2013 - 19:40 By Korea Herald
KT Corp., one of the nation’s leading telecom companies, on Tuesday said it signed a 15 billion won ($14 million) agreement with SBE and Stockbridge Capital Group to offer smart solutions for Sahara Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

SBE is a real estate developer while Stockbridge is an asset management firm, and both have stakes in the project.

KT will be in charge of upgrading the overall systems and networks for the hotel, which is currently under renovation to reopen next year.

Building energy management and automation, along with facility management and digital solutions, will be provided by KT, the company said.

KT added it will also deliver power-efficient lighting and sensors to conserve energy for the hotel by up to 60 percent.

“We will work together with our partners to help build a high-tech hotel,” said Kim Hong-jin, president of KT’s Global and Enterprise unit.

He added that the project may help KT make a further foray into molding smart solutions for hotels.

KT has been looking into diversifying its business as the network industry is fast reaching saturation.

Sahara Hotel was first built in 1952 and operates up to 1,600 rooms, along with casinos, restaurants and shopping malls.
