Kim Han-sol, a grandson of late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, will enroll at an elite French university in September.

Kim Han-sol is the son of Kim Jong-nam, Kim Jong-il’s outcast son, and the nephew of the current North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

According to French and local news reports, Kim Han-sol will join the Europe-Asia undergraduate program at Sciences Po’s Le Havre campus on the north coast of France.

The three-year liberal arts program, taught in English, focuses on the relationship between Europe and Asia and gives students the option to pursue a master’s program at the university’s Paris campus.

Kim Han-sol was born in Pyongyang in 1995, but is said to have lived most of his life abroad along with his father ― who has effectively been exiled to Macau after he fell out of favor with Kim Jong-il. In May, Kim reportedly graduated from United World College in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The youngest Kim drew media attention in October last year when he gave television interview.

“I’ve always dreamed that one day I will go back (to North Korea) to make things better and make it easier for the people there,” Kim Han-sol said in the Finnish television interview.

“I also dream of unification because it’s really sad that I can’t go to the other side ― it’s a really sad story,” he added.
