LG Display develops Quad HD LCD panel

Aug. 21, 2013 - 20:55 By Korea Herald
LG Display Co., a South Korean panel maker, said Wednesday that it has developed a new HD LCD panel for smartphones that offers four times clearer images than existing HD LCD displays.

The 5.5-inch Quad HD panel improves contrast and vividness compared to current mobile displays, and enables users to enjoy a full view of PC-version web pages at a single glance without image distortion. This is in contrast to current Full HD displays, which only realize three quarters of a full screen.

Also, even when enlarging the screen, users will be able to enjoy undistorted and sharper text, LG Display claimed.

LG Display said the new Quad HD panel is the highest-resolution mobile panel among current mobile device displays.

“This advancement will enable consumers to fully enjoy more lifelike and crisp images on their smartphones,” LG Display said.

Based on low-temperature polysilicon substrate, the panel also realizes superior brightness with improved transmittance, LG Display said.
