Ewha Womans University Medical Center, one of the major general hospitals in Seoul, appointed renowned hemato-oncologist Lee Soon-nam as its new director on Wednesday, officials said. Lee replaces Suh Hyun-suk, who served as the center’s director for the last six years.

Lee, a medical expert on lung cancer, melanoma and hospice care, has served as chairwoman of the Korean Society for Hospice and Palliative Care and the Korean Association of Clinical Oncology, and served as the executive board director of the Korean Cancer Association.

Graduating from Ewha Womans University School of Medicine, Lee practiced medicine at Ewha Medical Center and Seoul National University Hospital, and attended training courses at Northwestern University’s Cancer Center in Chicago, Illinois. Lee started her teaching career in 1987 and served as dean of Ewha Womans University School of Medicine between 2006 and 2008.

Ewha Medical Center also named Yoo Kwon the new president of Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital, one of its two affiliates. Yoo is an expert on digestive diseases, particularly liver treatments. A graduate of Seoul National University School of Medicine, Yoo studied at Harvard University Hospital and has served as a professor at Ewha Womans University School of Medicine since 2000.
