Korean Embassy worker robbed in Yemen

July 24, 2013 - 20:41 By Korea Herald
A South Korean Embassy employee in Yemen was attacked and robbed of his car by armed men in Yemen’s capital Sanaa, the embassy said, cautioning residents and travelers there.

The robbery took place at around 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday when the South Korean Embassy staff was driving to work in Hadda area in downtown Sanaa.

A blue sedan carrying two men armed with rifles first followed the South Korean staff’s car and then blocked his way in a quiet two-lane road before forcibly taking his vehicle, according to the website of the South Korean Embassy to Yemen.

The armed men hit him on his head as the staff attempted to drive away, according to the website.

The embassy advised increased caution for travelers and residents in the Arab country, saying the country’s ability to maintain pubic security remains insufficient amid a series of robbery cases on foreigners reported of late. (Yonhap News)
